School Counseling
The school counseling program at Mary B. Austin Elementary School is centered on meeting the needs of ALL students in the areas of academic achievement, social and emotional development, and career exploration. Our comprehensive program is specifically designed to ensure Austin Innovators build the knowledge and skills they need to thrive as kind, caring, and successful individuals equipped for bright futures.

I work alongside teachers/staff and parents to help students develop into the fullest, brightest versions of themselves. I empower students to become their best selves by teaching skills in the areas of academic, social-emotional, and career readiness. This includes:
- Building a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program that serves ALL Mary B. Austin students;
- Classroom counseling lessons focused on learning strategies, self-management skills, and social skills;
- Small group counseling;
- Short-term individual counseling;
- Consultation with parents and teachers;
- Community resource referrals;
- School-wide programming (Red Ribbon Week, Personal Safety, Anti-Bullying, Student honors and recognition, etc.);

Students may see the school counselor in one of the following ways:
- Self-referral (student asks to speak to the counselor)
- Parent referral
- Administrator, teacher, or other staff referral
